What Is a Discount Calculator?

A discount calculator converts an advertised percentage reduction into two useful numbers: the discount amount and the price after discount.

For example, knowing that something is “25% off” doesn’t tell you exactly how many dollars, pounds, rupees, or euros you’ll save until you apply that percentage to the original price. This general-purpose calculator handles that calculation in one step.

How to Use the Discount Calculator

  1. Enter the original price.
  2. Enter the discount percentage.
  3. Click Calculate.
  4. See the amount saved and the final price after discount.

Formula

Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount % ÷ 100)

Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount

The first calculation finds your savings. The second subtracts those savings from the starting price.

Examples

An $80 jacket with a 25% discount saves $80 × 0.25 = $20. The final price is $80 − $20 = $60.

For a $47.99 item at 15% off, the saving is about $7.20, leaving a final price of about $40.79 when rounded to the nearest cent.

On a $1,200 laptop at 10% off, the discount amount is $120 and the final price is $1,080.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a discount manually?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage divided by 100. That gives the discount amount. Subtract it from the original price to get the final price.

What’s the standard discount formula?

Discount Amount = Original Price × Discount % ÷ 100. Then subtract the discount amount from the original price.

What does 20% off mean?

It means 20% of the original price is removed, so you pay the remaining 80%.

Can I calculate a fixed amount such as $15 off?

Use the Coupon Savings Calculator for fixed-dollar reductions. This calculator is designed for percentage discounts.

How do I find the original price before discount?
